Zakat Calculator
Calculate your annual Zakat based on cash, gold, silver, investments, and business inventory, checked against the Nisab threshold.
How This Is Calculated
Zakat is 2.5% of your net zakatable wealth, but only if that wealth is at or above the Nisab threshold and has been held for a full lunar year:
Zakat Due = 2.5% × (Total Assets − Debts Owed), if Net Wealth ≥ Nisab
Nisab is a fixed physical weight - 7.5 tola of gold or 52.5 tola of silver - converted to rupees using today's market price, since gold/silver prices change daily.
Worked example: Suppose you have Rs. 500,000 cash, Rs. 300,000 in gold, and Rs. 200,000 in investments, no debts. Net wealth = Rs. 1,000,000. If silver is Rs. 3,000/tola, Nisab = 52.5 × Rs. 3,000 = Rs. 157,500. Since Rs. 1,000,000 is well above that, Zakat Due = 2.5% × Rs. 1,000,000 = Rs. 25,000.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is Nisab, and why do I need to enter a gold/silver price?
Nisab is the minimum amount of wealth you must have before Zakat becomes obligatory. It's defined as the value of 7.5 tola of gold or 52.5 tola of silver - fixed physical weights that never change, but their RUPEE VALUE depends on today's market price. We don't have a live gold/silver price feed, so you'll need to check today's rate yourself (e.g. from your local Sarafa Bazar or a jewellers' association) and enter it.
Should I use the gold or silver Nisab?
This is a matter of scholarly opinion. The silver Nisab is lower in rupee terms, so it makes more people liable to pay Zakat (generally considered more generous to the poor and the more cautious option). The gold Nisab is higher and used by others based on different readings of the same hadith. If you're unsure, consult a local scholar - we deliberately don't pick one for you.
What counts as zakatable wealth?
Cash and bank balances, gold and silver (jewellery you own beyond personal use is a debated topic - consult a scholar), investments and savings at current market value, business inventory (trade goods) at current value, and money owed to you that you expect to receive. Debts you currently owe are subtracted from the total.
What does this calculator NOT cover?
Agricultural Zakat (Ushr) and Zakat on livestock follow entirely different rules and aren't covered here. This also doesn't account for wealth held for less than a full lunar year (Hawl) - Zakat is only due on wealth you've held above Nisab for a full Islamic year.
Is this official or endorsed by any religious authority?
No - this is a general-purpose calculator based on commonly accepted rules, for educational convenience. For anything beyond a simple estimate, especially business Zakat or complex asset situations, consult a qualified scholar or your local Zakat committee.
