How This Is Calculated

We take your investment amount, divide it by the stock's closing price on your chosen date (or the next trading day if that exact date wasn't a trading day), to get a number of shares. We then multiply that share count by the most recent closing price to get today's value.

Shares = Amount ÷ Price on Start Date
Value Today = Shares × Latest Price

Worked example: If you invested Rs. 100,000 in a stock trading at Rs. 200 per share, you'd own 500 shares. If that stock is now trading at Rs. 280, your 500 shares would be worth Rs. 140,000 — a total return of 40%.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is "value today" calculated?

We divide your investment amount by the stock's closing price on (or the next trading day on or after) your chosen date to get a number of shares, then multiply that by the most recent closing price we have.

Is this adjusted for dividends?

No. This shows price-only returns - it does not add back any dividends the company paid out over the period, since we don't have historical dividend data. Actual total returns for dividend-paying stocks would be higher than shown here.

Can I buy fractional shares in real life?

No - this is an illustrative calculation. In practice you can only buy whole shares (or whole "lots" through some brokers). Treat the share count here as illustrative, not a literal order size.

Why can't I pick any date I want?

We can only calculate from the earliest date we have real trading data for that specific stock, which varies by stock (some PSX stocks have data back to October 2015, others less if they listed more recently or have gaps).

What if the stock was suspended or delisted?

We use the last available price for that stock. If a stock was delisted, "value today" reflects its final traded price, not a real-world redemption value - suspended/delisted stocks may not be tradeable at all in reality.
